We thank G20 leaders for agreeing to temporarily suspend debt payments owed by some of the world’s poorest countries to help them respond to the health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We call on private and multilateral creditors to follow suit and offer a moratorium on debt and interest payments to low-income and heavily indebted middle-income countries.

The COVID-19 crisis has plunged the world, especially the poorest countries, into an unprecedented crisis pushing millions of people into poverty.

We welcome this act of international solidarity to support countries’ immediate investments in healthcare and social safety nets to protect the lives and livelihoods of the most vulnerable people.

The Asia Pacific Leaders Malaria Alliance is committed to supporting countries in Asia and the Pacific in addressing the current challenges presented by COVID-19, malaria and other communicable diseases.
